EDITOR'S PAGE The Sun Harvest project The March/April 2008 issue of North American Clean Energy contains an article, "The Sun Harvest project" that describes a recently completed solar-electric project that provides approximately 247 kW of electrical power to the Fresno (CA) Adventist Academy, a K-12 private school run by the Seventh Day Adventist Church. The solar array is approximately 200 yards long and 25 yards wide. This array is claimed to be one of the largest privately owned solar power projects in Central Valley. The system is planned to provide 100% of the power to meet the school's annual electrical requirements of roughly 400 MWh. The ground-level system, provided by First Solar, Inc., occupies 2.2 acres of land on the school campus. Ground was broken last September and the project construction was completed in approximately eight weeks. The system was placed online in November. Payback is calculated to be on the order of two years! The same issue contains interesting articles about wind energy; "WinDrive: highly dynamic mechatronic drive system for megawatt wind turbines" and "Taking wind turbines to new heights." North American Clean Energy is published bi-monthly by Action Media Ltd. Subscriptions are "$48 per year but free subscriptions may be available by contacting them at circulation@nacleanenergy.com. |
